Indexing: Creating and Maintaining Speed DVD Available at ASI Online Store

The American Society for Indexing is proud to announce the development and sale of a new, ASI-sponsored professional development product, which is launching with special promotional pricing during the Denver conference. We are enthusiastic about this new product, because it represents a new means of providing quality indexing education to people around the globe.

Kate Mertes, past-president of ASI and acclaimed indexer and presenter, has partnered with ASI to present to you Indexing: Creating and Maintaining Speed. This two-DVD recording contains the entirety of her "NASCAR Indexing" presentation-over four recorded hours-which she has delivered to ASI's members around the country. The discs also contain digital copies of the handouts and overhead slides used in her presentation.

ASAIB Newsletter Posted Online

The April 2008 issue of the Association of Southern African Indexers and Bibliographers newsletter is available for download from our member area.

A bylaws amendment changing ASI's name to the American Society for Indexing has been approved by 83.5% of the members voting in the 2008 election. The name change is effective immediately, and will be phased in at both the national and chapter/SIG levels over the next few months.

ASI Publications Committee is pleased to announce a new book by Fred Leise, Kate Mertes, and Nan Badgett.

Indexing for Editors and Authors, A Practical Guide to Understanding Indexes is an indexing guide for editors, authors, and designers who need to create, edit, format, or evaluate indexes and work with professional indexers.

To encourage high quality web site indexes and to promote the web indexing work of professional indexers, the Web Indexing Special Interest Group of the American Society for Indexing began awarding the annual Web Indexing SIG Award to a deserving indexer for excellence in web site indexing. The award is announced at the Honors & Awards session of the American Society for Indexing Annual conference each spring. The first award was announced at the ASI Conference’s Awards dinner held at the Warwick Hotel in Denver, Colorado, on Friday, May 2, 2008. More information can be found at the Web Indexing SIG site.
